Universities in Izmir have medical centers on their campuses that are able to provide basic health services.

International students are now required to take out a local health insurance policy with the Turkish Social Security Institution (SGK) with monthly premiums paid only during the time of their academic term. Students may have additional private insurance, but are still required to pay for Turkish Natioanl Insurance. International students can refer to their host university for more specific information.

All hospitals have an emergency room that is open 24 hours a day. Physicians and pharmacies are on call nights and weekends.
